Rabat – Morocco and Russia expressed, Tuesday in Moscow, their commitment to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria and called for a final political and diplomatic solution to the crisis in this country.
In their “Declaration on Deep Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco,” released on the occasion of the official visit of King Mohammed VI to the Russian Federation, the two countries called for resuming, without delay, inclusive and direct inter-Syrian dialogue on the basis of decisions of the International Syria Support Group, and resolutions 2254 and 2268 of the UN Security Council.
In this regard, the Kingdom of Morocco welcomed the Joint Statement of the Russian Federation and the United States on the cessation of hostilities, which represents a unique opportunity to end violence in Syria.
Concerned with strengthening peace and security in the Middle East and North Africa, the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco stressed the importance of achieving comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council, the Arab peace initiative, the principle of two-State solution and the creation of an independent and viable Palestinian state with Al-Quds-East as capital city.
The Declaration states that Morocco recognizes the important role of the Russian Federation within the Quartet. For its part, the Russian Federation recognizes the role and the significant contribution of King Mohammed VI, as Chairman of al- Committee Quds, under the OIC.
Concerning the Libyan issue, the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco support the inter-Libyan dialogue, pointing out that only a political solution and the formation of legitimate government structures can lead to national reconciliation and end the internal armed conflict and danger of terrorism in this country.
Russia highly appreciates the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco to promote inter-Libyan agreement on the basis of Skhirat agreements, says the Declaration.
Concerning Yemen, both countries call for a swift political settlement to the bloody conflict in that country, urging for the preservation of the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen.
Regarding Africa, the two countries, which express their commitment to strengthening the Continent’s positions in the system of international relations, seek to cooperate closely on issues related to the economic development of African states, particularly within Morocco-Russia-Africa partnership, the document says.
The Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco attach great importance to the Sahara-Sahel space within the security system of the African continent, and advocate for the implementation of the UN Integrated Strategy for the Sahel.
Both countries also believe that their Deep Strategic Partnership is a positive and constructive contribution to strengthening regional and international stability.
